Dirt Classic Introduces Heat Index in 2018

(PETERSEN MEDIA)- In sports today team rankings are one of the most intriguing and debated topics by fans, and media heads alike. With no perfect system in place, some of the most heated and engaging topics we often see, and take part in, are College Football Playoff rankings, and the 68-team March Madness Basketball Bracket.

With no real ranking system in place in Sprint Car Racing, the Dirt Classic has taken a page from stick and ball sports, and brought over the concept in 2018 with the new Dirt Classic Heat Index for Central Pennsylvania and Ohio.

In an effort to create some buzz and help fans track what drivers are hot heading into Dirt Classic Ohio, the Dirt Classic Qualifier at Williams Grove, and Dirt Classic 5 presented by Schmuck Lumber, we have simply created a point system that rewards podium finishes, and will rank drivers straight up in each region.

It’s a simple formula, really, as a win gets a driver 3 points, a second place finish gets them two points, and a third place finish would award a given driver one single digit.

With Lincoln Speedway, Williams Grove Speedway, and Port Royal Speedway all hosting marquee events in 2018, the Central PA Heat Index will monitor podium finishes at all three venues and provide updates monthly to create conversation and intrigue leading up to two big Dirt Classic weekends in September.

In the ultra competitive Ohio area, the Ohio Heat Index will simply monitor podium finishes at all Artic Cat All Start Circuit of Champions pres. by Mobil1 races that take place in the ‘Buckeye State’ leading up to Dirt Classic Ohio August 31st and September 1st at Attica Raceway Park, an event that now features the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions during both nights of action.

“We always try to keep our fans engaged, and are always looking at new ways to create interaction with Dirt Classic events,” Jarrod Adams said. “We put our heads together and thought a ranking system for DC Ohio and DC5 would be a fun thing for fans and teams alike, and hopefully it can create some conversation and story lines as the year unfolds.”

2017 WINNERS- Dominic Scelzi (Dirt Classic California 360ci), DJ Netto (Dirt Classic California 410ci), Shane Stewart (Front Row Challenge), Joey Saldana (Dirt Classic Ohio), Lance Dewease (Dirt Classic 4 pres. by Schmuck Lumber)
