With anticipation building for all of the upcoming sprint car action in Central Pennsylvania, from special events with the All Star Circuit of Champions and PA Speedweek looming at the end of the month, the Dirt Classic Qualifier will usher in a hot month of racing this weekend. The single Qualifier event will be held this Saturday, June 6th at Lincoln Speedway.
Any fan that got a taste of the inaugural Dirt Classic in September 2014 will attest to the level of competition, not just in the A-Main but also within the stout 54-car field that attempted to make the 24-car main event.
That’s what makes the Dirt Classic Qualifier so exciting: The Golden Ticket.
In addition to the $7,000 first place paycheck, the winner of the Dirt Classic Qualifier also receives a ‘Golden Ticket’ to the marquee event in September. Which means that if the Qualifier winner isn’t able to race their way into the show, they’ll receive a guaranteed starting spot in the field.
Last year’s Qualifier, which was held at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Western PA, was won by Central PA’s own Danny Dietrich. Dietrich was able to qualify outright for last year’s $20,000-to-win main event, finishing seventh and earning $1,600 in addition to his Qualifier earnings of $5,000.
Fans should anticipate drivers holding nothing back throughout the Qualifier, where the unique format is designed to factor in both qualifying and the ability to pass other cars.
A single pill draw will determine the qualifying order (straight up) and the heat race lineup (inverted), and points will be awarded based on qualifying time and heat race finish. The total sum of each competitor’s points will determine the starting grid for the A-main, after B- and C-Main races are completed.
Another new special event will be debuted on the track with the Dirt Classic Fans’ Choice Race. Over the past three months, fans have submitted their votes for their favorite drivers to help determine a four-car field. The four drivers with the most votes will race a 5-lap dash for $400-to-win and $100-to-start.
With an increased purse designed that’s been bumped by $2,000 on the winner’s share from 2014 and across the rest of the field, you can bet the Pennsylvania Posse will out be in full force. Lincoln Speedway fans can expect to see the likes of first annual Dirt Classic winner Stevie Smith, May’s World of Outlaw winner Greg Hodnett, Danny Dietrich, Brian Montieth, Alan Krimes, Brent Marks, Lance Dewease and the rest of the Pennsylvania Posse to be in competition for The Golden Ticket.
Advanced tickets for the Dirt Classic Qualifier are now available for purchase at DirtClassic.com and through the Lincoln Speedway office. In addition to fee-free processing and saving $5.00 by purchasing advanced General Admission tickets, advanced Reserved Seat purchases will receive a complimentary fan pit pass.
