Sammy Swindell to Run Dirt Classic Hot Off Jackson Nationals Sweep

Sammy Swindell netted his biggest payday in more than three years this weekend at the Jackson Nationals, sweeping the weekend and earning $25,000 in Saturday’s victory alone, and he and the CJB Motorsports team are gearing up to do the same at the 2nd annual Dirt Classic in less than three weeks.

“Sammy’s been doing a good job this year and we started thinking about a month ago about how we could race the Dirt Classic,” said CBJ team owner Chad Clemens. “And the more we thought about it, we thought it would be a good decision. We could race the Outlaw tune-up and race the Dirt Classic on Saturday night. That way Sammy can race for two nights and go to our shop during the week.”
Running close to the CJB Motorsports home base in Central Pennsylvania is a rare opportunity for the Clemens family, and the team felt that despite the logistical challenges, it was worth the extra work to get Swindell back to Lincoln Speedway.
“It’s about having the right kind of people that want to be here,” Clemens said. “At the end of the day, I love racing and I love the people that I’m involved with. It’s another opportunity for me to see one of my cars on the race track. I don’t get to travel a whole lot because of my business. So for me, it’s easy to make that decision.
But Barry
[Jackson]’s got to implement it and sometimes I drive him crazy from that point of view. But he’s just as dedicated to the sport as anybody I know, so he thinks this is a good opportunity as well. I basically put it into his hands to make happen and he does it. It stems from everybody pulling their weight and doing their jobs. Everyone who works at CJB definitely does that.”
After such a dominating weekend at Jackson Speedway, winning both Friday and Saturday’s programs, Swindell might just be the car to watch at the Dirt Classic. And despite the variable track surface and going up against teams that race Lincoln Speedway every single week, Clemens feels the #01 team has a great shot at winning the $20,000 first place paycheck.
“With Barry setting the car up and Jeremy Mondock and Brandon Hickman working on it, having Sammy in the car I think I have a really good shot – probably a better shot than ever, “Clemens said. “Sammy adapts to a track very well. He’s a very smart person. With the combination of crew and driver, we have a good opportunity to run really well.”
The opportunity to watch his car hit the track – a track that Clemens has a long history with and sits in his backyard – isn’t the only reason he’s bringing the CJB team home for the weekend. As a team owner, he knows the importance of supporting events like the Dirt Classic which aim to give back to the sprint car community.
“I just have to give it to these promoters and the people in racing who want to put these races on because big races like this, where you put out such big purses, you can either win or lose,” Clemens said. “I’m grateful for these guys who want to put these races on and let us come and race them and do what we love to do.”
The Dirt Classic will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA.
